Located 33 miles north of Reno, the lake lies entirely on the Pyramid Lake Paiute Reservation. A remnant of ancient Lake Lahontan, Pyramid Lake is home to Lahontan Cutthroat Trout, Cui-ui, Sacramento Perch, Tahoe Suckers, Carp and Tui Chub along with multitudes of water foul; most notably the endangered American White Pelican. The Tribe manages the lake as a trophy Lahontan Cutthroat Trout fishery in conjunction with the US Fish And Wildlife Service. There are two strains of LCT in the lake; Summit and Pilot Peak. The Pilot Peak strain grows quickly and since its reintroduction in 2006, numerous fish over 20 pounds have been landed.
Approximately 28 miles long and 10 miles wide at its widest point, Pyramid is a remnant of ancient Lake Lahontan. There are miles of beaches to fish, as a result solitude and great fly fishing abound. If you like being a social fisherman, then wade on into the line up and join the fun!
Do I need a Nevada Fishing License?
No. A tribal fishing permit is all that is needed to fish Pyramid. Get one here.

What should I bring?
Clothing that is appropriate for the season. The weather can range from comfortable to down right bone chilling nasty cold. Dressing in layers is a good idea. Having a good wind/rain jacket with a hood is a must. A sun hat, sunscreen and sunglasses are also useful.
What is the season at Pyramid Lake?
Fishing season is October 1 through June 30th. Prime fishing is November/early December and March through May. With that said, Pyramid is a lake of many moods and fishing can be good at anytime during the season so even if you cant fish during prime season you still may catch a fish of a lifetime on any cast.
