Truckee River Fly Fishing Report 7-1-2026

Truckee River

Fly fishing on the Truckee River is good right now with fish being caught on a variety of methods. Flows continue to drop toward typical summer flows and water temps are still very good. Flows on the gauge below Martis Creek is reading 313cfs and below Boca is 489cfs. Water temps have dropped some with the cooler weather we just experience and are ranging from 56-63 degrees.

Golden stoneflies, yellow sallies, caddis, pmd mayflies and bwo mayflies are hatching daily so there are good opportunities to catch fish. I haven’t seen any green drakes yet, but there are days away from hatching. We are seeing a lot of the smaller summer fish right now with a smattering of bigger adults in the mix. Fishing the pocket water is good, but we are also finding fish in runs and riffles. With a lot of angling pressure at this time, think outside the box and fish the marginal water that others pass up and you may be surprised what you find!

Looking Ahead

As summer progresses our major challenge is going to be water temps. High country lakes are already hitting the 70 degree mark so please use a thermometer and stop fishing when water temps hit 70 degrees. On the Truckee, we are still a bit away from only offering morning trips. I have availability and would love to get you out on the water!
