We’ve experienced some strong storms over the past few weeks with a great boost in flows and water temperature. The 10 day forecast is trending dryer and warmer. Combine this with dropping flows, increasing hatches and we are presented with great window for some excellent fishing opportunities on the Middle Fork Feather River.
Fishing is good on the Middle Fork Feather River right now with fish eating swung streamers. Indicator nymphing, tight line and dry fly techniques are also working. Concentrate on the slower water close to the bank, foam lines and the slow deeper runs. Late afternoon bwo hatch has fish feeding on the surface. There are still winter stoneflies present and we are starting to see a few skwala stoneflies. Not enough to get too excited about but it is a good sign of what’s to come. Choose your wading spots carefully as the flows are pushy and it is easy to get into trouble at this time.
