Winter has returned with a vengeance this week in the Northern Sierra with a very strong series of storms. Over a foot of rain has fallen at the homestead in the headwaters with more falling as I write. Forecast calls for 5000′ snow levels by Christmas evening so that will slowdown some of the flooding concerns.

Before the storm the fly fishing on the Middle Fork Feather was very good for a short window every afternoon with trout eating baetis nymphs, mergers and dries. Once the storm passes, I expect some good fishing using high water tactics like Trout Spey and indicator nymphing. I am really excited for swing season on the Feather!
