Truckee River
Fishing on the Truckee River remains good inspite of the recent heat waves. Water temperatures have been problematic as of late with the river hitting 68 degrees by 11 am along the Glenshire stretch. It’s a few degrees cooler below Prosser Creek and the confluence with the Little Truckee. The heat has finally broken and cooler overnight temperatures are allowing the river to recover a bit more. I am still recommending morning half days at this time.
Fish are being found in a variety of water types with the heavier white water holding the most fish. Dry dropper rigs have been a mainstay lately along with tightline nymphing. I haven’t fished streamers lately but they will work during low light conditions and on overcast days. There has also been some sporadic dry fly action if you are in the right place at the right time. Midges, caddis, stoneflies, PMD and Baetis mayflies are hatching on a daily basis.
Flows are very good with the Truckee gauge reading 258 cfs and 572 at Boca.

Little Truckee River
The Little Truckee continues to fish very well with water temps ranging from 46 to 54 degrees. There is a really nice afternoon PMD hatch that has fish looking up around 2pm. There are still a few green drakes around as well so Ive been running a green drake cripple as my big dry for dry dropper rigs on the fabled tailwater. Flows are perfect at 161 cfs.
Dry dropper rigs with a pmd nymph is a good bet until the hatch starts rolling. Tight line rigs with a Jigged 20 Incher has also hooked some very substantial fish lately. Good presentations are a must on the Little Truckee River.
