Welcome to my new website! And a fishing report

I’m pleased to share with you my new website. It has been a long time coming and a much needed change from my old site. Please have a look around and let me know what you think. This will be an ever evolving place to keep up with what’s new and exciting in the Northern Sierra and Pyramid Lake fly fishing opportunities.

And now for the latest fishing report…

Truckee River

Welcome to the dog days of summer on the Truckee. Flows in town are excellent for late August at 250 cfs but water temps are an issue in the afternoon reaching the low 70’s. The mornings are still good with temps in the low to mid 60’s. Flows below the Little TruckeeĀ  Confluence are 569 cfs and water temps are cooler fluctuating from upper 50’s to mid 60’s due to the colder water being released from Boca. Fishing has been good in the mornings and improving in the afternoons and evenings. Dry/dropper rigs have been my mainstay lately with fish eating the dry as well as nymphs. Stimis, Turks Tarantulas, Double Dutch Bugs and hoppers (#8-10) have all had grabs and frenchies (14-16), yellow sallies(14-16), simple caddis (14-16) and baetis(16-20) have been working. Lots of small wild fish in the pocket water and riffles with a few nice fish mixed in as well. Cloudy days have fish rising to small baetis in the tail outs and there are some PED’s and caddis out in the evening.

Little Truckee

Fishing here remains good yet crowded, especially on the weekends. Dry/droppers in the am and Pmd’s and baetis in the afternoon. Flows have bumped around a bit this past week but seem to have finally stabilized for now. If you don’t mind bumping elbows this is the place to be.

Area Lakes

Bass fishing has been hit or miss at Prosser. Nymphing under an indicator seems most consistent. Milton Lake should be fishing ok, but I haven’t been there in a few weeks. Calibaetis mid day and midges in the morning and evening. Lake Davis is to warm to safely catch and release with water temps in the mid 70’s.

Pyramid Lake

Opens for the season October 1 and should be interesting as it has come up almost 16 feet since January.

Thanks for reading and look for a Pyramid Preview in the near future.
